The Maids of Jean Gennet

Some of you hate him, some adore him...the truth is that Jean Gennet has been, is, and probably will still be one of the most controversial writers of the 20th century. Last night I went to see "The Maids", performed by Pandemonium Performance at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre in Kentish Town. I have seen this play in French, Spanish even in Japanese and I still feel slapped on the face by it each time. The eternal dichotomy between what is good and what is bad...The volatility of peoples desires, and the hunger for glory. Mmmm...at the end you can't blame the maids for wanting to shine, or the search for glory. 3 Great things about last night's play: 1)Actor's interpretation, they tried enhancing those comical moments that are in the Jean Genet's script but that I've barely ever seen interpreted. I laughed even though I think I was the only one who actually appreciated it. 2)Direction 3)Wonderful Gastrobar underneath the theatre. 1 Bad thing: The guy beside me kept shaking his foot, therefore shaking my seat throughout the whole show.
